For classic Texas-style barbecue in any backyard, Char-Griller offers their Smokin' Pro Charcoal Grill. Using a traditional barrel design, Char-Griller optimizes heat convection and circulation to cook ribs or burgers evenly and efficiently. The grill offers 580 square inches of cooking space in the main grill, ideal for hosting a family barbecue in the backyard. The charcoal side firebox offers an additional 250 square inches of cooking space, bringing the grill's total space to 830 square inches. Barbecue chefs might employ the side firebox to roast a side dish of corn or vegetable shish kabobs for vegetarians in the family.

The barrel of the grill and side firebox are crafted in heavy-gauge steel with powder-coat finish to endure high heats and long-term use. A double bottom also increases the grill's durability. Nonstick grill grates constructed in cast iron resist warping and embellish the heat and flavor distribution to meats as they cook. Grate height also may be altered for different dishes. Slide-out coal drawers enable cooks to add charcoal while cooking without removing grill grates and dump residual ash easily. A rack below the grill supplies convenient space for seasoning spices, paper plates, hot pads, and barbecue accessories. The airtight-flanged grill hood keeps bugs and debris out while containing flames and heat. The hood also features a heat gauge for temperature monitoring. The grill stands four legs with two sturdy feet and two wheels for transport. Char-Griller has several Smokin' Pro accessories available for separate purchase, including a warming shelf, rotisserie kit, and propane igniter. The grill requires assembly upon delivery and includes thorough direction, as well as several barbecue recipes. This item is covered by a one-year warranty for material or craftsmanship defects. The grill measures 62 by 29 by 50 inches and weighs 146 pounds. --Jessica Reuling

This is the second Chargriller smoker/bbq I've purchased. I like the features, I really enjoy using it to cook all the different meats and foods I like to make. This one has the added feature of the side smoke box, which I did not have on my previous model. I am looking forward to using that to expand my cooking repertoire.I bought this item at the time so I could smoke the Thanksgiving turkey on it. I was fortunate it came early enough to put it together, but upon opening all the boxes and packages that came with it, I found multiple parts on the item damaged. The heat resistant coating was scratched off multiple places and the lower half of the big barrel had a major dent in it (see attached pictures). I would have just complained and found a way to get a replacement, but it is too late for turkey day. Being a bit of a home mechanic/fixer of things, I grabbed my trusty rubber mallet and used good old caveman techniques to get the bottom of the barrel back into shape, i.e. I hammered it back into shape.Lastly, now that I at the time of putting it together, I discovered that there were a few parts missing. So another trip to the hardware store, where I had to purchase flat and lock washers to complete the build the way the instructions suggested. I also bought heat resistant black paint to touch up all the spots that came damaged.I'm not sure whether to blame the shipper or the manufacturer for the damage, but it does make it a little less desirable. Overall, I'm happy with the way it turned out, wouldn't be one of my purchases if it didn't have some problems, but I managed to work them out. I can't wait to start my smoking adventures on this grill.

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent smoker/gill -- Not awesome but does pretty good job
Reviewed in the United States on August 18, 2020
I have owned 5 smokers over the past 30 years, a couple were quite expensive ($1500-$2000) and a couple were priced around $200-$350. When I read the reviews about how the smoker should have a better seal, or thicker gauged metal, or should not have paint chipping away, I would suggest that they be more realistic about what they have bought which is a $250 smoker.

At this price point, if you are considering buying this smoker understand that you probably will only get 3-5 years of life out of it, the paint will chip due to heat, you may see some rust within the first few months, and dialing the heat to a specific temperature can be challenging. It will however make some really good barbecue along the way, or be a good charcoal grill for steaks/burgers.

I use it a couple times a week and it works fine, a little flimsy and my biggest wishes are that it managed heat a little better as it is really difficult to get the heat down to 200-225 degrees and that it did not start rusting so quickly. Literally within the first month and using it three times, the firebox started chipping paint and now is rusted some. It did not affect the performance, however it looks like crap. I do cover it after every use but I am thinking that maybe I will get three years out of this smoker. I also understand that I can buy some sealer and do some modifications to improve performance yada yada yada ... yeah that's not happening.

As stated, just understand that you are not paying over $1000 for this unit as those units due have better powder coating on thicker gauged metal that does not leak as much smoke and easier to control.... But last times I checked, my RIBS I had Sunday night were amazing and the smoker only cost me $250. Good luck.
